George Washington was 55 years old during the Constitional Convention. When he arrived in Philadelphia the city came to life. He played a major part in creating the constition and he was choosen as the president unaminously. He was selected as president of the convention because he was a recognized leader and was very skilled at recociling different views. The delagates also knew they could trust him because of his outstanding character. He was a national hero and just by standing in the corner of the room he made his presence felt, even if he was not speaking. He never really participated in the debates at the convention. He made the rules for the convention. George did not even speak until the last day of the convention. When he did speak he expressed his thoughts and ideas, he was mainly there to keep the degelates working. Since he was supporting the radification of the constition many other americans felt since he was doing it, it was the right thing to do. George destroyed the possibility of limited government with his interpretation of the constitution. Some of the ideas George had durring the convention were to have a strong union, a legislature chosen by the people, a writen constitution, the rule of law, and he had many other ideas.
